Terms of use

Last updated 31 July 2026

These are the rules of the Treasure Hunt at Lisbon Games Week, run by NOVA Information Management School (NOVA IMS), Universidade NOVA de Lisboa. You accept them by playing. They are short on purpose.

The game

You tap NFC tags hidden around the venue, earn tokens, connect with other players, and spend tokens in the merch store. An account and a wallet are created for you when you join. You do not need to install anything or pay anything, and transaction fees are covered for you.

The tokens are not money

Game tokens exist to be spent in the merch store at this event. They have no monetary value, are not a currency, an investment or a financial instrument, cannot be bought, sold or exchanged for cash, and are not transferable outside the game. They run on the Nova Cidade test chain, operated by NOVA IMS. When the event ends they stop being useful, and we make no promise to honour them afterwards.

Merch

Fair play

Do not:

We may void tokens, cancel purchases or remove an account that does these things. Reward claims are checked, and rewards obtained by manipulating the game do not stand.

Tags you place yourself

If you own a tag, you choose its name, hint and location on the map. Keep it findable, keep it somewhere you are allowed to put it, and do not name it anything you would not want printed on a poster. We can edit or remove tag content.

Connections and other players

A connection needs both people to agree. What another player shares with you is theirs, not yours to publish: treat contact details you receive as you would a business card. Private notes you write about someone stay private to you.

Age

Anyone attending the event can play. If you are under 16, do not fill in the optional profile fields (name, photo, phone number and the rest) without checking with a parent or guardian first. See the privacy notice.

What we do not promise

This is a free game at a three-day event, provided as-is. The venue wifi will drop, a tag may be missing, and the chain may be briefly unavailable. We do not guarantee that the game is uninterrupted, that any particular item will be in stock, or that a score will be preserved. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for losses arising from playing, beyond what cannot be excluded under Portuguese law. Nothing here limits your statutory consumer rights.

Changes and contact

We may change these terms during the event, for instance to close an exploit. The current version is always the one on this page. Questions, disputes and requests go to daraujo@novaims.unl.pt. Portuguese law applies.
